As you drive along the Cotai Strip, an incredible structure commands the skyline. Shaped like an amorphous figure eight, the free-form building looks as though it’s been wrapped in a web of aluminum and steel. This is Morpheus hotel — one of the last projects by the late Pritzker Prize-winning architect Zaha Hadid.
If you find the facade’s exoskeleton to be mesmerizing, just wait until you get inside. Encircled by perforated, origami-like walls, the lobby atrium sets a tone of utter refinement. This dramatic all-white space comprises marble check-in counters, precious artwork and a pristine Morpheus Lounge under an angular domed roof that mirrors the building’s exterior.
Throughout the property, beetle-like glass bubble elevators whisk you from one lavish experience to the next, from ground-floor luxury shops to the rooftop swimming pool, multiple Alain Ducasse dining outlets, a club lounge and indulgent spa. At the end of the day, you’ll unwind in one of the hotel’s 770 organically shaped guest rooms, suites and duplex villas, which are among the largest in Macau.

- A feat of modern engineering, the sinuous building draws inspiration from the curved forms of traditional jade sculptures, while simultaneously pushing boundaries as the world’s first free-form high-rise building with an exoskeleton.
- The art program will impress collectors with works by Thilo Heinzmann, Charles Pétillon, Shinji Ohmaki and Erwin Wurm in the public areas. Open to guests only, the ultra-exclusive Art on 23 gallery houses Good Intentions — a larger-than-life sculpture by Brooklyn-based pop artist KAWS.
- Morpheus Spa is home to a snow garden with real snow and trees, as well as six spacious treatment rooms, a Finnish sauna, vitality pool and salon.

- For those hoping to snag a table at Alain Ducasse at Morpheus (the hotel’s fine-dining establishment), it’s essential to book ahead and dress the part.
- On the same floor as the spa, the gym holds a dedicated Technogym cycling studio, free weights, squat racks and more.

The Rooms
- Designed by Remedios Studio of Hong Kong, the 772 guest rooms start from 624 square feet, making them among the largest in Macau. The interiors feel soft and sophisticated, with warm champagne hues, rose-gold accents, bespoke furniture and surprising angles that conform to the building’s free-form shape.
- Blending luxury and technology, every room comes equipped with sensor lighting and touch-screen panels to control the blinds, TV, lights and air conditioning.
- There are nine ultra-exclusive duplex villas on the hotel’s top floor that include round-the-clock butler service, private spa treatment rooms, exercise rooms, heated floors, custom furniture and unparalleled views of Macau.
- The nearly 5,500-square-foot Pool Villas are the most extravagant accommodations, showcasing refined, natural stone floors and wood touches. In the middle of each villa, there’s a private pool, while the bed comes dressed in your choice of Belgium linen or 1,000-thread-count cotton sheets.

The Restaurants
- The dining experience at the Macau hotel starts strong with the elegant Morpheus Lounge, a tea salon and patisserie, on the ground floor. Must-trys include the speculoos cheesecake, chocolate coconut profiteroles, mont blanc Vacherin (blackcurrant meringue, chestnut ice cream, blackcurrant sherbet and vanilla ice cream) and the roasted pineapple (which comes with 10 different sherbets).
- Sporting vibrant orange hues and an eye-catching octopus painting, L'Attitude is a bright bistro that explores contemporary French cuisine, such as onion soup, Parisian-style beef tartare and whole roasted chicken.
- Step into Alain Ducasse at Morpheus and you’ll be surrounded by sophisticated white and cream décor, as well as a “pantry” of vintage glassware and cooking accessories. The set menu provides a superlative selection of the chef’s acclaimed haute cuisine, with dishes like Mediterranean gamberoni with delicate gelée and gold caviar; steamed duck foie gras with cherry-rhubarb and toasted brioche; and farm veal chop, served alongside young carrots and ginger.
- The Cotai Strip hotel also plays host to excellent Chinese restaurant Yi on the 21st floor. Serving a blend of regional cuisines in a tasting menu, the restaurant serves dishes like fresh abalone with citrus dressing, stir-fried Alaskan crab meat with crab roe, and namesake dumplings.
