Four Seasons Hotel Guangzhou
A towering example of modern grace
VERIFIED LUXURY
We verify luxury. Our highly trained inspectors visit every property we rate, evaluating based on up to 900 objective criteria. Our hotel stays span a minimum of two nights.
We pay our own way. No one can buy a rating; all ratings are earned through our objective inspection process.
Our global team of inspectors are anonymous at all times, so they have the same experience as a typical guest.
While we inspect both service and facility, our Star Rating system emphasizes service because your experience goes beyond how your surroundings look — how your visit makes you feel is what you will remember most.
We started in 1958 as Mobil Travel Guide, and we created the original Five-Star rating system for hospitality.

Four-Star

Soon To Be Rated
As our highly trained, incognito inspectors work to assess properties, our editors check them out ahead of time and provide a sneak preview of what to expect.

Our Inspector's Highlights
- Caffe Mondo is open all day for casual dining in a cool white, modernist dining room. Food here is mainly western — and mostly Italian — with some Chinese specialties available as well. This is the place for kids. You won’t want to miss the dim sum at Yu Yue Heen, a chic, black and red lacquered Cantonese restaurant.
-
Noted chef Masannobu Hoshina helms Kumoi, a superb spot for sushi, grilled items and tempura in a beautifully modern Japanese setting.
-
If you’re in the mood for fresh seafood from around the world, it is showcased at Catch, a sleek gold, gray and purple dining room with a spectacular view from the 100th floor. Carnivores, fear not: Non-pescatarians are catered here, too.
-
Drinks, coffee and afternoon tea are available at The Atrium lounge on the Guangzhou hotel’s 70th floor, while Tian Bar is a stylish hideaway in the sky — on the 99th floor — that serves a menu of cold and warm tapas, though most guests come here to drink and gawk at the scenery.
-
Four Seasons Hotel Guangzhou sits directly on the Pearl River, with the Canton Tower on the opposite bank. This newly developed area, home to an ever-growing number of steel and glass towers, as well cultural landmarks — the Guangzhou Opera House, most notably —make for a fascinating assemblage of contemporary architecture.
Things to Know
- If you can, avoid traveling to the luxury hotel around the Lunar New Year, the region’s biggest holiday, when airports here can get very crowded with people flying to visit their families.
-
South China can get very hot and humid during the summer months. Late spring and early summer are the rainiest times, and the city can be hit by typhoons that come up across the South China Sea.
-
Late autumn is the most pleasant time of year in Guangzhou, with lower humidity and comfortable temperature.
-
Guangzhou’s Baiyun International Airport is a 30- to 45-minute trip by car, and Guangzhou East Railway Station is about 10 minutes away. The older city center is also about 10 minutes away by taxi, and the Guangzhou hotel is convenient to the Metro subway system as well.
The Rooms
- If the world’s a stage, then the guest rooms at Four Seasons Hotel Guangzhou are the skyboxes. Located on the 74th through 98th floors, every room has floor-to-ceiling windows for spectacular views of the Pearl River or the city.
-
The interiors are chic and contemporary, with gray, ivory and taupe tones accented by teal or plum-colored upholstery in the seating area, and by layers of blue in the carpeting, which looks like the sky in a traditional Chinese landscape painting.
-
The beds sit against gray leather headboards and are covered with an expanse of luxurious ivory cotton sheeting. Workspaces are furnished with glass writing desks and two ivory swivel chairs.
-
A black lacquered console conceals the mini-bar and for entertainment, you’ll find a 42-inch LCD TV, iPod dock and an MP3 connection. The best part of the luxury hotel room, however, might be the oversized marble bathroom, furnished with a deep soaking tub that’s almost impossible to resist.
The Look
- Four Seasons Hotel Guangzhou’s bold, modern design is inspired by nature. Starting before you even enter the building, lush landscaping creates an organic feeling around the property.
-
Skyscrapers are controlled environments — and this one is no exception — but natural light fills every space, through the exterior, all-window facade and the 30-story atrium that rises from the lobby, bringing the sky indoors.
-
Indeed, a cloud theme runs throughout the design, and you’ll see a few dragons flying around, too. Luxurious natural materials — copious marble, agate and glittering granite — and shining glass, chrome and lacquer lend luster.
-
Furnishings have clean lines and graphic appeal. Contemporary artworks from around the world are on display throughout the public spaces.
-
The building’s unique architectural fingerprint (see curved triangle facade and slanted lattice support structure) is apparent in every part of the Guangzhou hotel; the supports are incorporated into the interiors, and the curvature allows for more expansive views.
